Welcome to
Digital Camera Product Reports, an online resource of
facts,
company profiles, and
customer comments for digital cameras available for sale online or offline. Unlike the typical "review" site, we simply provide the "facts". It's up to you to make a decision which camera is best for you based on your wants and needs. And at the bottom of each report, we do provide a resource or two where the respective digital camera is available at low cost, either new or used.
Please make sure to bookmark our blog as we're always adding to it with new reports. We are a relatively new blog, so currently we are focusing on the canon brand digital cameras as you can see by looking at our Product Reports on the right. However we're adding about 10 new product reports per week which will allow us to begin producing product reports for other digital cameras like nikon, sony, panasonic, kodak and others. If you want us to produce a specific digital camera brand product report, please send us an
email and let us know which one.
So go ahead and begin your journey by clicking on any of the "Canon" brand camera links at the right that you want to find out more information on.

The Canon Powershot SD890 IS Digital Camera is a fairly new camera released in March. For the casual photographer who takes a picture once in awhile, it's a tad expensive.
We were excited by the many features in this canon ultra compact so we decided to talk to some digital photography experts and let a few of them take this Powershot SD890 out into the field and run some tests.
This 10megapixel digital camera has great photograph resolution. And keep in mind that if you like to print out copies of your pictures in large size, 10 megapixels is the best feature to have. The cameras with lesser megapixels have a tendency to show grainy photos when printed in large size.
The Canon Powershot SD890 IS Digital Camera is a very durable camera. It's mostly made of metal and is considered to be one of the biggest and weightiest cameras in the "compact" camera category, especially for the zoom quality that you get. We're talking about a 5x zoom which allows you to really capture high resolutions on subjects that are reasonably far away.
There is a generous variety of shooting styles/modes in the SD890 IS. Our experts especially liked the focus check display mode. This specific feature identifies faces in the playback mode and then zooms in on them. This allows you to make sure that the faces are in focus. Nice.
As a result of the lack of manual control, some users of this Canon model digital cam might get a bit frustrated if they don't like shooting in a pre-set style. Yes, there are lots of pre-set options on the SD890 IS, but if you need total control over image exposure, you may want to contemplate purchasing another of the many Digital Cameras.
The SD890 IS also takes one of the specially manufactured canon batteries. These batteries are rechargeable but they are also a little on the expensive side and charging can take two hours. If you are figuring on doing some time consuming shooting, you may end up dropping quite a bit of money on backup batteries to keep yourself covered while you are in the field.
After testing the Powershot SD890, here is what one of our digital camera experts had to say: "This is a great camera in a small package, which makes it great for people who don't want to have to lug around a huge camera just to get a quality shot. The Canon Powershot SD890 IS digital camera is the best of both worlds: professional quality photographs from a point-and-shoot pocket sized camera."
Why Canon's new digital camera announcements suck big time.

A while back I asked readers for suggestions on what camera to buy. And several very thoughtful suggestions were made, some for cameras I had not considered. I carefully checked out each one, and many thanks to everyone who shared suggestions! When I used to shoot film, I had several cameras to meet different purposes. I had an Olympus XA, a tiny 35mm rangefinder with an outstanding lens that I could carry with me everywhere. I had several Olympus SLR’s and lenses (all fast primes) to ha

Amazon.com Widgets (Part 1 of this article explains my rationale for answering the question “How hard is it for a Canon shooter to go Nikon?” After a month with a D300, I’m ready to answer that question. If you buy equipment from Amazon via links on this page, or click on the ads, we get a little cash, which helps us maintain this site.) Noise and High ISO performance Nikon DSLRs have traditionally lagged a bit behind Canons in terms of digital noise at high exposure levels. The D300 levels

Johnathan Harrell on How much is enough resolution on a DSLR sensor: The Race Continues… Frankly, I like his writing better than his linked to Digital Photo Pro article: Megapixels: How Much Is Enough? which, while supporting his conclusion that more isn’t always better, isn’t well written and is hard to read. His post is made in response to Canon announcing their 50D camera with a 15 megapixel sensor. To give you an idea of why he (and I) are concerned about this, look at this diagram of sen

I currently own three cameras, all manufactured by Canon, plus a busted toy Holga "art" camera (modified to accept 35mm film) which I keep for fun. My first "serious" camera was a graduation present from my parents in 1984... the Canon A-1. This brilliant camera was the first to have electronically-controlled exposure modes to free the amateur photographer from having to figure out shutter speed and aperture settings. Though primitive by modern standards, I can't stress how revolutionary this
